Web2.0, SAAS, SOA, SOBA research

Two weeks ago I started helping one of my teachers developing a pragmatic programming course. Techniques like Ruby, RubyOnRails and AJAX will be teached there. In preperation of this course, I started searching for arguments supporting the teaching of these techniques. I was successful at finding these, however I did not find any obvious Web2.0-hype arguments.

To many of us, Web2.0 is just another internet-hype. But there is more, there is a change in the Information Technology industry that is hard to deny. Even though this is clear to many of us, it is hard to formally specify these changes and find statistics on this.

This is how I started working on a literature study with these main questions:

  • Is there indeed a change in the IT industry, shifting software products to software services?
  • How does this change relate to Web2.0, Software-as-a-Service and Service Oriented (Business) Architectures?
  • What consequences does this change have on the Software Development process, methods and techniques?

I already found some gartner reports to back up my first question. However I still need a good motivation to do this research in the first place!

Please contact me if u have any suggestions!
